Let’s bust some myths
We can’t speak for every bridal boutique, but at BOO we take our Bridal Stylist role seriously - so seriously, in fact, that we are here to bust a few myths about it.
Myth #1: “You are just another number to them”
You might overhear this somewhere (like in a supermarket, where I can’t help but eavesdrop), and trust me, I’m this close to jumping into the conversation! But at BOO, this could not be further from the truth. From the moment you book your appointment, you’ll have your very own bridal stylist. She’s your go-to person for every part of your journey with us, from the first try on to the moment you collect your dress after you alterations.
Myth #2: “You can only try on a few dresses”
Not true! We want you to try on as many dresses as you need to. We’ll ask you lots of questions before your appointment to make sure we have a curated selection ready for you when you arrive, so you can dive right in. And your stylist won’t just show you the usual suspects—she’ll suggest a few wildcards to push your boundaries. After all, how often do brides end up in a dress they never thought they’d pick? That’s the magic of a skilled stylist at work.
Myth #3: “They are only there to sell you a dress!”
Hardly. A bridal stylists job doesn’t finish once you have said “Yes!” She is there to manage your timelines. She will be tracking your dress to ensure it arrives in time for your first fitting, whilst making sure that you have allowed enough time to book your accessory appointment (and lingerie appointment for that all important Honeymoon wardrobe). She is also keeping track of your favourite frocks and making sure that you are added to guest lists for relevant trunk shows and designer events. She might also drop into your inbox just to see how you are feeling and if there is anything else she can help you with. She really is your very own Fairy Godmother.
Myth #4: “They are just doing a job”
This is true to a degree, but they rapidly become your biggest cheerleader! I have been a bridal stylist for over 25 years and I have made some lifelong friends during that time. We are masters at dealing with delicate information - I have known that a bride was pregnant before her family knew - as we had to find a dress that would accommodate the “plus one”, I have helped brides overcome fears about their size, weight, age, arms, knees (ok, that one was me), family politics, and so many other things that I will probably keep under wraps until I decide to write my first book. Your stylist is there for YOU! She wants you to look beautiful, she wants you to feel incredible, and she wants you to be the best version of you on your wedding day.
Myth #5: “It’s just shopping for a dress, it’s not rocket science”
This comment always makes me chuckle, it certainly isn’t rocket science but it can feel like it sometimes. We have a saying here at BOO, “We are not here to find you a dress, we are here to find you THE dress”. Sometimes your dress might not even exist yet - but together you and your stylist will create it together. It really is a magical adventure that you will go on together!
